Renowned filmmaker Hassan Askari has sadly passed away in Lahore.

Askari, known for his illustrious career in the film industry spanning multiple decades, played a significant role in both Punjabi and Urdu cinema. Initially, as an assistant director to Kaifi, he co-directed notable films like Chan Makhna (1968) and Sajan Piyara (1968). Joining Tariq Masood Qureshi's film unit further strengthened his industry presence.

Throughout his extensive career, Askari directed about 60 Punjabi and Urdu films, also producing 10. His directorial debut, Khoon Paseena, starring Sudhir, Firdous, Mazhar Shah, and Agha Talish, marked the beginning of his directorial journey.

Askari is notably recognized for introducing Sultan Rahi as Maula Jatt in the groundbreaking film Wehshi Jutt in 1975, preceding the famous Maula Jutt movie. His notable cinematic contributions include Toofan, Salakhain, Doorian, Sher Dil, Putar Jagay Da, Dil Kisi Ka Dost Nahi, Qanoon, Kinara, Mela, Talash, Mafroor, Sherdil, Tera Pyar Mein, and more.

Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Amir Mir, expressed deep sorrow at Hassan Askari's passing, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to the film industry. He highlighted Askari's receipt of the prestigious Pride of Performance award and his direction of numerous outstanding movies. Secretary of Information and Culture, Danyal Gillani, also extended condolences, praising Askari's significant works in Urdu and Punjabi cinema, such as Salakhain and Wehshi Jutt.

Askari's death signifies the end of an era in Pakistani cinema, leaving behind a profound cinematic legacy that will continue to influence and inspire generations of filmmakers. The Pride of Performance awardee is survived by his widow, a daughter, and a son.
